Falcons Prevail in Shootout

Fresno Falcons News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Goaltender Brett Jaeger made 49 saves through 65 minutes of hockey to lead the Fresno Falcons to a 2-1 shootout win over the Alaska Aces at Sullivan Arena on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons drew first blood early in the game with hard work in the trenches by Jan Sochor, who slid along the end-boards fending off an Alaska defender before finding John Wroblewski flashing down the slot for his 10th of the year at 2:20 of the opening period.

Alaska tied the game at one in the final minute of the second period. Skating on the power play, Charles Linglet fired a wrist shot from the left circle that was deflected before reaching the back of the net at 19:08 to send the game to the third tied at one.

In the third, the Aces out-gunned the Falcons 21-4 but Jaeger continued to turn away chance after chance as the teams reached the end of regulation still tied at one. After a scoreless five-minute overtime, Simon Mangos, Charles Simard and Jim Lorentz all scored in the shootout for Fresno, and Jaeger dramatically capped his first shootout win in four tries by stopping two-time Stanley Cup Champion and Anchorage native Scott Gomez to clinch the victory.

Fresno has now won four straight games and moves to 30-17-6 on the year with 66 points, remaining in fourth place in the West Division.

The Falcons and Aces play again tomorrow at 6 p.m. Pacific time. Tune in to hear all of the live play-by-play action on 103.1 FM, The Mountain Cat, or watch the game live via the internet by accessing B2 Networks from the Falcons' home page at www.fresnofalcons.com.
