Lynx return favor on Gladiators in second half of home and home

February 26, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release

Jamie Johnson scored twice, including the game winner, and added an assist as the Augusta Lynx took down the Gwinnett Gladiators by a 5-2 count Saturday night in front of 4,096 at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center.

The Lynx would mount a 2-0 advantage in the first period, starting with Joe Markusen's first professional goal at 5:32 from Johnson and Colt King. Then Johnson would record his first goal of the night from Matt Dzieduszycki and Eric Johansson at 14:55 to forge Augusta's two-goal advantage at the break.

Gwinnett responded with a pair of goals in the second period to tie the game after 40 minutes. Jeff Campbell struck first, followed by Andrew Oke's marker to give Gwinnett life heading into the third period.

As meaningless as numbers can sometimes become, the Lynx had two stats on their side entering the third period Saturday. Augusta had not lost in regulation when leading after one period of play this year (13-0-2 prior to the game), and Gwinnett's record in Saturday night games this year stood 3-8-4 heading into the contest. True to the numbers, the Lynx would score three times to win going away in the third period.

Johnson notched the eventual game winner on the power play, his second of the night, from King and Dzieduszycki at 8:52, followed by a Dan Sullivan marker from Markusen and Doug Wright to make it 4-2 at 14:49 of the third period. John Cronin capped the scoring in his return from the IR as he fired a shot through the legs on Adam Berkhoel for the 5-2 final. Sullivan and Brian Passmore added the assists on Cronin's second goal of the year.

Jason Saal earned the win for the Lynx with 21 saves, while Berkhoel stopped 20 shots to take the loss. Augusta finished 1-for-3 with the man advantage, while Gwinnett went 0-for-4.

The Lynx return to the ice Sunday for a matinee matchup with the streaking Greenville Grrrowl. Faceoff is slated for 4:05 pm, with the pre-game show kicking off one half-hour before faceoff on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630. Tickets are on sale now for all remaining Lynx home games through the team's office at (706) 724-4ICE, through all TicketMaster locations, and on line at www.TicketMaster.com.
