Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC – The Victoria Salmon Kings and the Las Vegas Wranglers met for the first time at the Bear Mountain Arena on Friday, and the Wranglers scored last minute goal which preserved their unbeaten record against Victoria.

The Wranglers jumped out to the quick start, only 1:28 into the opening period, Dustin Johner and Deryk Engelland set up Darren Lynch to take the one goal lead. That did not last very long as the Salmon Kings came right back. Thirty seconds later Derek Campbell was rewarded for his consistent hard work, set up on the play by David Neale and Scott Turner.

The Salmon Kings opened the scoring in the second period when the puck went in off the leg off of newcomer Mike Ikeda. Ryan Watson and Ryan Wade were credited with the helpers, but the Salmon Kings could not hold on to the lead. At the 12:21 Adam Huxley and Jeff Attard set up Matt Schmidt to tie the game at two.

The Salmon Kings were not finished adding to the score sheet though, Jason Hegberg netted his ninth of the season from Mike Josephson and Victoria took the 3-2 lead to the break.

Six and a half minutes into the third period the Wranglers knotted the score at three. Shawn Limpright and Johner sent Mike McBain into the open, McBain beat Victoria goalie Dan Blackburn and that was all the scoring until twenty nine seconds left in the game.

The Salmon Kings were on their heels deep in their own zone and lost control of the puck. Attard picked up the loose biscuit fed it to Engelland who found Limpright wide open in front of the yawning cage. Limpright iced the fish and the Wranglers won 4-3.

Victoria and Las Vegas renew acquaintances on Saturday at the Bear Mountain Arena, game time is 7:00p.m. PST. Tickets are available for all Victoria Salmon Kings home games at www.selectyourtickets.com or by phone at 25-220-7777.
