Florence Y'alls News Release
FLORENCE, KY - With the winningest season in Florence Freedom history already secured, the Freedom added an individual accolade on Thursday when shortstop Junior Arrojo was selected to the 2012 All-Frontier League Team and finished third in MVP voting.
The Miami, Florida native has hit .302 this season while playing one of the most demanding positions on the field. Arrojo boasts a .419 on-base percentage thanks largely to his grit, as he's been plunked 32 times this season, 14 more than anyone else in the league.
"We're proud and pretty lucky to have a guy like Junior on our team," Freedom General Manager Josh Anderson said. "He does so much more than produce for this team. He's the captain, everyone feeds off his energy, and he represents himself with class every night with the fans. He's a true fan favorite and he's done Florence proud."
Arrojo was a Frontier League All-Star selection for the first time in his professional career this season. He's been highly productive in the Freedom's 17-7 August playoff run, driving in 11 of his 30 RBI from the two hole in manager Fran Riordan's lineup, including a game winning two-run homer on August 24 against the Washington Wild Things.
The Freedom continue their playoff run Thursday night on the road against the Normal Cornbelters before traveling to Evansville for their final series against the Otters.
Playoff tickets for Freedom home games are currently on sale and can be purchased online at FlorenceFreedom.com or by calling 859-594-HITS (4487). If the Freedom win Thursday night, they would be the four seed and play their first home playoff game on Saturday, September 8 at 6:05pm against the Traverse City Beach Bums.
