
Boomers Chad Mozingo Name Frontier League All-Star

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - Prior to the last Schaumburg Boomers home game of the regular season, the Frontier League announced the 2012 Post-Season All-Star Team with Chad Mozingo representing the Boomers in the outfield.
Mozingo, 23, has been an absolute steal for Manager Jamie Bennett and the Boomers after being selected in the third and final round of the 2012 Frontier League Tryout Camp Draft. The third-year pro is among the league leaders in a number of offensive statistical categories including batting average (.323, 4th), runs (68, 5th), triples (7, 2nd tie), extra-base hits (40, 5th) and slugging percentage (.551, 4th).
"I am very proud of Chad," Boomers Manager Jamie Bennett said. "He has worked very hard for us this season and this a well-deserved and outstanding accomplishment for him."
A 2012 Frontier League Mid-Season All-Star as well, Mozingo has come alive since the break for the Boomers. The 5-foot-11 outfielder has earned a .357 batting average in the second half with eight of his 11 home runs coming during a stretch which saw Mozingo raise his overall batting average by a 42 points since June 29. In addition, Mozingo leads the Boomers with 22 two-out RBI and boasts the second longest hitting streak in franchise history with 14-games consecutive games with at least one hit earlier this season. Moreover, Mozingo leads the team with 18 multi-run games and is tied for second on the club with Nate Baumann with 12 mutli-RBI games.
Mozingo, who makes his home in Spring, Texas in the offseason, spent his first two years in professional baseball as a member of the Washington Nationals organization. The left-handed hitter was selected in the 20th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Draft and opened his professional career in the New York-Penn League with the Vermont Lake Monsters, playing 60 games and posting a .253 batting average. Mozingo collected seven doubles, three triples, 17 RBIs, and seven stolen bases with Vermont before spending 2011 in the Gulf Coast League where he appeared in 20 games.
Mozingo hit over .300 in three seasons at Rice Universitybefore being drafted. The Texas native made an immediate impact at Rice, earning All-NCAA Houston Regional honors as a freshman for a team that reached the College World Series. Mozingo started 58 games as a freshman and earnedSecond Team All-Conference USA honors as a sophomore before hitting a career best .322 as a junior.
