Normal CornBelters News Release

NORMAL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, could not win a pitchers' duel falling 1-0 to the Florence Freedom Thursday night at the Corn Crib.

The CornBelters and the Freedom went eight scoreless innings before Florence finally scored in the top of the 9th inning. Eddie Rodriguez led off the inning with a single and pinch runner Kyle Bluestein stole second. Bluestein crossed the plate after Jim Jacquot hit an RBI single giving the Freedom a 1-0 lead.

That would be the only run of the game, as the CornBelters were unable to respond.

Kyle DiMartino (1-3) took the loss while Florence's Brent Choban (3-1) received the win for the second night in a row. Jorge Marban was credited with his 15th save.

Normal starting pitcher Ross Davis pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing only four hits.

The CornBelters will start their final series of the season against the Joliet Slammers on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the Corn Crib. The 'Belters will put right hander Drew Provence (5-3, 3.81 ERA) on the mound to face Joliet right handed pitcher, Jim Schult (5-3, 4.83 ERA). Pregame begins on WJBC.com at 6:20 p.m.
