Gateway Grizzlies News Release

Gateway Grizzlies relief pitcher Zac Treece and catcher Landon Hernandez nabbed postseason awards in the Frontier League Thursday.

Treece, a right-hander from Hot Springs, AR, was named the 2012 Frontier League Rookie of the Year.

Hernandez, a third-year Grizzlie catcher from Palm Desert, CA, was named to the 2012 Frontier League Postseason All-Star team.

Treece entered action on Thursday night with a miniscule 1.28 ERA and four saves. The 6-3 195-pound right-hander wrapped up his college career at Ouachita Baptist University in 2012. He has thrown 49 and a third innings in 34 relief appearances for Gateway. Treece has only allowed an earned run in six of his appearances this season.

"Zac is very deserving of this great honor," Grizzlies sixth-year manager Phil Warren said. "He has been one of our most reliable relievers throughout the season. We are excited for him."

Hernandez came into play Thursday night with 15 home runs and 47 RBI to go along with a .242 average. The 6-1 230-pound backstop has six hits in his last three games and has hit a team-leading .318 in August with seven home runs and 18 RBI.

Hernandez was also named to the midseason All-Star team.

"Lando has really turned it on for us in the second half of the season," Warren said. "He continues to show why he's one of the best all-around catchers in this league."

Playoff tickets are now on sale through the Grizzlies Ticket Office. To get tickets, call 618.337.3000 or go online to gatewaygrizzlies.com.
