Gateway Grizzlies News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Rogelio Noris became the third Grizzlies player in team history to record three home runs in a game and Gateway picked up a 10-6 win against the Traverse City Beach Bums Thursday night at Wuerfel Park.
The Grizzlies win coupled with the Schaumburg Boomers loss brought the Grizzlies magic number to clinch the West Division to one.
Noris hit home run runs in the first, sixth and ninth innings against Traverse City (62-31). The designated hitter from Mexico drove in five runs while becoming the first Grizzlies hitter to hit three home runs in a game since Ryan Sullivan in August of 2005 against Evansville at home.
Gateway (55-38) collected 15 hits with Jonathan Johnson leading the way with four hits. Chris McClendon and Noris both had three hits while Landon Hernandez had two. John Shelby also homered for the Grizzlies.
Gateway jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never trailed in the game behind starting pitcher, Tim Brown (12-2). Brown notched his league-leading 12th win of the season, giving up five runs in six and a thirds innings. The right-hander from St. Louis, MO is 7-0 in his last nine starts.
Zac Treece pitched an inning and a third scoreless, Logan Mahon retired the one batter he faced and Richard Barrett finished off the game giving up one run in the ninth inning.
The first-place Grizzlies look to capture the West Division crown on Friday night at GCS Ballpark. Right-hander Brett Zawacki (1-2) makes the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05 CT.
Playoff tickets are now on sale through the Grizzlies Ticket Office. To get tickets, call 618.337.3000 or go online to gatewaygrizzlies.com.
