Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
DURHAM, N.C. - Nick Fortes finished a triple shy of the cycle while matching a career-high with four RBIs and Willians Astudillo homered and reached base four times Friday to push the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp to an 8-3 victory over the Durham Bulls from Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
With the score tied at three, JJ Bleday led off the fifth with his first Triple-A home run to push the Jumbo Shrimp (3-7) in front. Later in the inning, Durham (4-6) reliever Adrian De Horta (0-2) walked Lewin Díaz with two outs. Fortes' double then scored Díaz from first to extend the Jacksonville advantage to 5-3.
Jacksonville would add to its lead from there. Norel González singled to begin the sixth. After a fielder's choice, Bleday walked before Astudillo notched his first hit with the Jumbo Shrimp, an RBI single to make it 6-3.
Astudillo homered to lead off the ninth and later in the inning, Lorenzo Quintana added a sacrifice fly to set the scoring margin at 8-3.
The Jumbo Shrimp jumped out of the gates thanks to Fortes. Astudillo was hit by a pitch with one out in the first, and two batters later, Díaz walked. Fortes then clobbered a three-run home run to open the scoring.
Ryan Boldt tripled to begin the bottom of the first before scoring one pitch later on Isaac Paredes' sacrifice fly. A Paredes two-run homer in the third tied the score at three.
Jake Fishman (1-0) earned the win with 2.1 hitless innings of relief. He fanned four. Zach Pop worked 1.1 scoreless frames before Huascar Brazoban pitched a shutout ninth.
RHP Bryan Mitchell (0-0, 7.36 ERA) makes his first start of the season in Saturday's 6:35 p.m. contest at Durham. Coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. on ESPN 690 and ESPN690.com.
