Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI- The Fort Wayne Komets (15-13-1-1) special teams paved the way with a power-play and a shorthand tally in a 4-1 victory Friday night over the Kalamazoo Wings (11-15-2-1) at Wings Stadium.

Skating below the left circle, Thomas Beauregard snuck the puck on Fort Wayne's second shot of game past the Joel Martin 12:41 into the opening period for his team-leading 13th goal of the season to give the Komets an early 1-0 lead.

Too aggressive on their power-play early in the second period, a cross rink pass by Kalamazoo turned into an odd-man rush and a shorthanded tally by Brent Smith (6th).

The Komets extended their lead to 3-0 with 4:17 remaining in the second frame, when Brandon Marino picked up his second assist of the game by creating a turnover in the K-Wings zone and sending it to Eric Giosa for the forward's fifth-goal of the season.

Kalamazoo's lone goal occurred midway in the third, as Mike Matczak (1st) struck with a power-play marker.

Giosa tacked on his second-tally of the night in the waning moments with an empty-netter to close out the scoring.

Kalamazoo will travel to the Huntington Center tomorrow, Saturday, December 29th for a 7:05 p.m. encounter against the Toledo Walleye.

The K-Wings will return home to Wings Stadium this Monday, December 31st for a 7 p.m. face-off versus the Cincinnati Cyclones at 7 p.m. during the 11th Annual New Year's Eve Bash, presented by COOL 101 and WWMT News Channel 3.
