Trenton Titans Week(s) in Review
December 28, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Titans News Release
With all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it's easy to forget to handle your normal responsibilities. Proof of that? Forgetting to give everyone their update on the week that was in Titans hockey! So without further ado, here is a quick rundown of the last two weeks (6 games) of great Titans action which saw them go 5-0-1.
Friday December 14: Wheeling - 2, TRENTON -4
Trenton used two third period goals to pull away from the Nailers in their second meeting of the season (first at home). Scott Wedgewood stopped 32 shots in the win and Marcel Noebels began his (current) seven-game scoring streak with an assist on the opening goal.
Saturday December 15: ELMIRA - 5, Trenton - 4 (OT)
The Titans lost a two goal lead in the final eight minutes, then watched as Artem Demkov - who opened the game's scoring - close out the game with 1:09 left in OT. Stephen Schultz had a goal and two assists and Andy Bohmbach added another goal and assist. Wedgewood, playing on back-to-back nights, took the loss despite a 29-save effort.
Sunday December 16: Orlando - 1, TRENTON - 5
Trenton dominated the first-ever meeting with the ECHL-expansion Solar Bears. West Point grad (2012) Marcel Alvarez opened the game with his first career professional point. The 2nd Lieutenant is slated to go to Fort Benning on January 15 and will attend Ranger and Airborne Schools before receiving his Company assignment.
Jacob Cepis also had his first goal - first since being traded from Idaho - to highlight a three-point night. Niko Hovinen stopped 25 for his first win since November 16 in Elmira.
Wednesday December 19: Elmira - 4, TRENTON - 5
Trenton completed a successful four-game home stand with a revenge win over the Jackals. Phil DeSimone - in his first game since coming on loan from Albany - and Bohmbach scored 29 seconds apart in the final four minutes to pull out the win. Wedgewood outdueled Marc Cheverie with 26 saves for the Titans.
Friday December 21: TRENTON - 6, Evansville - 3
The Titans picked up their first road win since November 16 (Elmira) and swept the three game season series with the former CHL IceMen. Trenton lost two, two goal leads and were tied 3-3 in the final nine minutes.
However the offense exploded for three goals thanks to Kory Nagy (2), Cepis (8, second in as many games) and Bohmbach (13, fourth straight game with a point) to pull away. Hovinen was solid, stopping 26 for his second consecutive win.
Saturday December 22: TRENTON - 5, Fort Wayne - 2
A late game and long overnight bus ride didn't affect the Titans in the first-ever meeting (and only one for the year) with the former CHL champion.
After surviving heavy pressure in a scoreless first, Trenton exploded for four in the second to help eventually cruise to a chippy, physical win. DeSimone (who would become the ECHL POTW), Noebels (PPG, 10), Schultz (PPG in his first game back after a mouth injury), and Jacob Drewiske (two goal night, 6) all scored in the second as Trenton got its second straight road win and made it six consecutive games with at least a point.
Wedgewood was brilliant again in net, stopping 39 for his second win in a row.

Relief Effort In The Wake Of Hurricane Sandy: As time passes and the holidays came upon us, it is easy to forget the people who were - and continue to be - effected in the aftermath of Sandy. The Titans are grateful to the members of Titans Nation who provided - and continue to offer - relief supplies for those in need.
The Titans will continue the help their neighbors and will keep delivering donations as they come in. Trenton would like to thank its friends at Justin's Rentals in Trenton, for supplying the transportation needed to deliver those donations. For information on how you can help, please call the Titans' Offices at 609-341-1100.
The Team That Streaks Together: After a win over Reading December 27th, the Titans are on a five-game win streak and seven-game point streak. The last five-game win streak was 3/24-4/2/10. For the last six-game run you have to go back to the 2009-10 season, when Trenton won six straight (2/14-27/10). The last seven game points run came at the end of the 2008-09 campaign (3/22-4/4/09).
The Nominees Are: While DeSimone took last week's POTW honors and Wedgewood was up for Goalie of the Week (2-0 record), Noebels is on pace for consideration in both Rookie and Player of the Month categories. He is on a (current) seven-game scoring streak and has a point in 11-of-12 games this month.
Rough Initiation: The Titans have been rude to the newcomers they have faced in the ECHL, sweeping all five games so far (3-0 EVN, 1-0 FW, 1-0 ORL), with a couple left to play against Orlando. They do not face San Francisco this season.
Powerful Scorer: Of Schultz's nine goals, six have come on the power play (leads the team).
Still Leader Of The Pack: Bohmbach currently leads the team in Goals (13), scoring (28), SHG (3) and GWG (4).
However...: He no longer is the team's sole-leader in assist. Noebels now has a piece of the top spot with 15.
Better Protect Your House: Trenton still leads the ECHL in Road SHG (7). The Titans had 7 SHG (3 road) all of last season.
Upcoming Slate
Thursday December 27, 7:05 pm vs. Reading Royals (Titans won, 2-1 in OT).
Friday December 28, 7:05 pm at Reading Royals (TRE is 1-1-0-1 in REA this year)
Saturday December 29, 7:05 pm vs. Reading Royals (last game of 2012; 2-3 vs. REA at home)
The Trenton Titans returned in the 2011-12 hockey season after a five year hiatus and boasted a 26.1% increase in attendance over the previous year, the largest of any team in the (then) 20-team ECHL.
