December 28, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
TOLEDO, Ohio - Forwards Dan Eves and David Pacan each earned multi-point games as the Cincinnati Cyclones (18-9-2-0) defeated the Toledo Walleye (17-13-0-1) by a 5-3 final score in front of 7,453 at Huntington Center on Friday night.
The Cyclones raced out to a 2-0 lead early in the first period as Mike Pelech buried a bad-angle shot just 53 seconds into the contest followed by a lamp-lighter from David Pacan at the 5:57 mark. Toledo answered with a goal of their own at 8:05 when Ben Youds caught a pass from behind the net and sent in his fourth goal of the season past Brian Foster (W, 34 saves, 13-3-2-0), cutting the Cincinnati lead in half at the first intermission.
Cincinnati extended their cushion to 3-1 midway through the middle stanza; at 8:52 Garrett Wilson batted a rebound past Jordan Pearce (L, 9 saves, 8-5-0) after Dan Eves sent a pass across the middle. Then, not even two minutes later, Josh Shalla slid a hard shot right along the ice between the legs of Pearce to give the Cyclones a three-goal edge at 4-1. At the end of a Cyclones major power play, Joey Martin picked up a turnover in the Cincinnati end and lit the lamp for a shorthanded goal at 13:56, pulling Toledo within a pair after 40 minutes.
The early minutes of the third period proved to be a stalemate as neither team could find the net. However, at the 12:44 mark, Maury Edwards skated across the Toledo blue line and let loose a glove-high wrist shot that beat Walleye net minder Kent Simpson (ND, 7 saves, 7-7-0-1) to give the Cyclones a commanding 5-2 lead. With just five seconds left, Andrej Nestrasil grabbed a loose puck in the Cincinnati slot and beat Foster with a low shot to cap off the scoring - with Cincinnati picking up a 5-3 victory.
Foster's win was his 13th on the season and 40th as a Cyclone - tying former Cyclone Cedrick Desjardins for the club's all-time career wins lead.
