Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

Greenville, SC: The Road Warriors bring another exciting game to overtime against the Wheeling Nailers but lose 5-4.

The first period stayed at a stalemate until Wheeling's Chris Barton broke the scoreless tie via a power play goal with just 1:37 left in the period. Andrew Hotham and Cody Wild were credited with the assists. Jordie Johnston tied the game as he redirected a low shot from the blue line by Kyle Haines; Brendan Connolly received the other assist on the goal.

The flood gates opened up in the second with a combined five goals between the teams. Wild got things started when he scored just 1:09 into the second. Wheeling went up 3-1 roughly two and half minutes later when Paul Crowder scored as the puck trickle into the net. Connolly would begin a tear as he scored two quick goals to tie the game at three. The first was a shorthanded marker when he took a long feed from Marc-Olivier Vallerand and skated in on a breakaway and roofed the puck past the Nailers' goalie Scott Darling. Wheeling would again take the lead when a Greenville turnover lead to a breakaway for Daultan Leveille for a 4-3 score.

Things slowed down again in the third period until Johnston tied the game with his second goal of the game and just 3:35 left in regulation. With the game tied at the end of regulation, the teams headed to overtime for the second night in a row. Unlike last night's game, the final goal was scored in the overtime period. Nathan Lieuwen made two amazing saves but left a slight rebound that Luke Pither shot in to end the game 5-4. Wheeling's Darling got the win and made 35 saves. Lieuwen made 39 saves and took the overtime loss.

The Road Warriors take on the Gwinnett Gladiators tomorrow at 7 p.m. with first place in the South Division on the line. The first 2,500 fans receive a rally towel presented by yp.com.
