(Rochester, MN) - Former Rochester Honkers outfielder Tony Kemp (Vanderbilt) was selected with the first choice of the fifth round--137th overall--in the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft by the Houston Astros.

Kemp was a member of the Honkers in 2011, when he hit .292 with 11 RBI and nine stolen bases in 35 games. This season, at Vanderbilt, Kemp hit .398 with six triples, and 33 RBI, while stealing 32 bases and scoring 64 times in 64 games. The 5'6" junior earned Southeastern Conference (SEC) Player of the Year this season; making him the second Commodore in school history to win the award. He was also just the third player in conference history to win both SEC Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year in his career. He also made the transition from playing in the outfield to playing second base during the season.

The fifth round selection was the earliest among all current and former Honkers in the 2013 MLB Draft and was the first time Kemp has been drafted.
