Thunder Bay Border Cats News Release
The Border Cats recorded their first road win of the season Thursday night as they stomped the Willmar Stingers 12-4 in Minnesota. Leading 5-4, the Cats blew the game open by exploding for seven runs in the top of the 9th inning. Thunder Bay erased a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd by scoring five times. Joey Hawkins (Missouri State University) started the uprising with a two-run double and his college teammate Dylan Becker smacked a three-run home run. Cory Kay (Harper College) went 3-4 with an RBI and two runs scored as the Cats upped their record to 5-4.
Chris Kerwood (Arkansas State University) picked up his first win as he pitched six innings and allowed four runs on seven hits. The 6'5" righthander walked two and struck out six. Zach Thiac (Nicholls State University), Daniel Stoney (Madonna University) and Kregg Snook (Clarendon College) all pitched a scoreless inning of relief to seal the win.
The Cats continue their four game road trip tonight in Rochester where they open a two game series against the Honkers at 8:05pm ET. Righthander Clint Knoblauch (Florida Gulf Coast University) is the scheduled starter for Thunder Bay.
