Madison Mallards News Release

Madison, WI - Former Madison Mallards pitcher Tom Windle was selected 56th overall by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft yesterday.

He is the second former Mallards player to be drafted this year, behind pitcher Jonathan Crawford, who became the highest player drafted in Mallards history by being drafted by the Detroit Tigers 20th overall.

Windle, a 6'3," 200-pound native of Maple Grove, Minnesota, went 2-4 with a 4.29 ERA in 14 appearances-seven starts-for the Mallards during the 2011 season. He struck out 60 and walked 20 in his 52.2 innings of work. That summer, Windle also played on the USA Collegiate National Team and went 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in two appearances.

During his junior season with the University of Minnesota this past spring, Windle posted an ERA of just 2.14 and went 6-4 in 14 appearances, all of which were starts. He led the team in innings pitched (92.2), strikeouts (86) and complete games (4). Opponents hit only .208 against him and his ERA of 2.14 was fourth in the Big Ten among starters.

Windle earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2012 and went 3-5 with a 3.27 ERA in 18 appearances, four of which were starts, but was hampered by a shoulder injury early in the season.

In the spring prior to his time with the Mallards, Windle was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament team after pitching eight scoreless innings and striking out six batters in the tournament. He went 6-2 and had an ERA of just 1.52.

The Mallards are returning to the "Duck Pond" tonight for a 7:05 pm game against the Wisconsin Woodchucks. Charter Communications Duck Dynasty Night is being held. Fans can meet Mountain Man from the show! The "Duck Pond" will also be hosting the Madison Duck Call Championships and fans are encouraged to bring their duck calls. It is also Potosi Brewery Night.
