Chinooks Beat the Loggers 5-3, Winning 4th in a Row on a Sunny

The Lakeshore Chinooks took on the La Crosse Loggers in a second straight game at Kapco Park. A 4 run first propelled the Chinooks winning resulting in a four game win streak and having a 5-4 record. The Chinooks brought their bats tonight getting 12 hits resulting in 5 runs. With the bats heating up, and the combination of the batting and pitching is encouraging for the future.

Lead off batter Chris Manning wasted no time jumping on the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the 1st inning rocketing a line drive right back at Logger pitcher. After a stolen base put Manning on second, With Sawyer Polen and Brant Valach reaching base making the bases loaded and no outs, Mike Hollenbeck brought home Manning for the first run of the game with a hit off the pitchers glove resulting in the ball to change direction. Ryan Krill came up to the plate and hit what looked to be an average RBI single. As the second and third run crossed the plate a wide throw home resulted in Hollenbeck to make his way home and Krill to settle in at second base giving the Chinooks a 4-0 lead after one inning of play.

David Lucroy and the Chinooks ran into some trouble in the top half of the 4th inning. The Loggers loaded the bases with no outs when Lucroy hit a batter resulting in the first run of the game for La Crosse. Dexter Price came up to the plate and hit a grounder to Valach, with no problem the Chinooks got the force out at home but then tried for a double play at first and threw the ball into right field resulting in two more runs making the score 4-3.

In the top of the 6th inning the Loggers were threatening once again with two outs and the bases loaded ending Lucroy's night. Tyler Thicke came in and was able to force a fly out to right to end the inning, keeping the score 4-3 Chinooks.

After the 7th inning stretch, Manning continued his great night leading off the inning with a triple. With one out, Valach came to the plate and flared an RBI single to bring in another Chinooks run, pushing the lead to 5-3. David Lucroy, (East Carolina) brother of Milwaukee Brewers catcher Jonathon Lucroy, took the mound for his first start as a Chinook. Lucroy went 5 2/3 innings with 7 strikeouts, 3 hits and gave up 3 runs.

Chinooks Chris Manning being asked about his night at the plate, "I was seeing the ball pretty well tonight, it always feels good to square up a couple balls and get the offense going as the lead-off hitter." Manning also stated how strong fielding, good pitching and timely hitting will continue this four game win streak as the Chinooks head on the road for the weekend.

The Chinooks finish their 4 games at Kapco Park taking all 4 and improving to 5-4 heading to Wisconsin Rapids Rafters for a weekend showdown. They return to Kapco Park on Monday, June 10th to take on the Madison Mallards. On June 10th's game, the Top Dog Exhibition will be held prior to the game.
