Last Week's Games

Friday, December 26th - Quad City Flames 2 at Milwaukee Admirals 4

The Flames dropped a 4-2 decision on Friday night in Milwaukee. A wild third period featured a combined four goals including the game-winning tally for Admirals forward Nick Spaling. Kyle Greentree and Kris Chucko scored for Quad City in the loss. After an early feeling out process, both teams found the back of the net late in the first period. Kyle Greentree scored off a Milwaukee turnover at 15:56 of the first period. Greentree scooped up a loose puck after an Admirals defender fanned on a pass in his own zone. The Flames leading goal scorer broke in alone before netting his 15th goal of the season on a wrist shot. Milwaukee responded just 14 seconds later when Triston Grant deflected a point shot past Flames netminder Matt Keetley. The period ended with the squads tied at one. The teams skated scoreless through a second period that featured eight minor penalties and nearly eleven minutes of specialty teams play. A wild third period kicked off with a Milwaukee goal during a 5-on-3 power play. Alexander Sulzer sent a point shot through a screen and into the Flames net to give the Admirals their first lead at 2-1. Nick Spaling extended the Admirals advantage ten minutes later when he picked a rebound off the end wall and crammed it past Matt Keetley at the left wing post. The Flames responded just 20 seconds later when Kris Chucko scored on a goal-mouth scramble to slice the Milwaukee lead to one. A furious late push by Quad City was quelled when Mark Matheson scored into an empty net to set the final at 4-2 in favor of the Admirals.

Saturday, December 27th - Houston Aeros 2 at Quad City Flames 3

The Flames earned a 3-2 win over Houston on Saturday after returning home from a five-game road trip. Peter Vandermeer, Kris Chucko and David Van der Gulik scored in the win for the Flames. After a scoreless first period, the Flames captured a 2-0 lead before the midway mark of the second period. Peter Vandermeer scored when he tipped a point shot from Matt Pelech into the Houston net. The tally was Vandermeer's fourth of the season. The Flames moved in front by two goals just four minutes later when Kris Chucko scored in transition following a feed from Kyle Greentree. With the Flames in front 2-0 and carrying play through much of the period, the Aeros received a goal from an unlikely source to cut the Quad City lead in half. Mitch Love scored his first goal of the season on a wraparound chance at 14:23 of the middle period to set the score at 2-1 after two periods. The Flames opened up a two-goal lead early in the third period when Carsen Germyn found David Van der Gulik in front for his ninth goal of the year. The Aeros answered back on the power-play when Jesse Schultz sent a screened shot past Flames netminder Leland Irving. The power-play marker set off a flurry of offense for the Aeros as Houston pushed for the game-tying goal. Quad City withstood the late rally as Irving turned aside nine of the ten shots he faced in the closing frame.
