Bears Move Into 2009 As Five Game Road Trip Begins

The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club embarks on a five- game road trip this Wednesday after a 5-3 win over the Albany River Rats Sunday at GIANT Center. The win was HERSHEY'S league-leading 23rd of the season. The road trip begins Wednesday in Springfield with a 1:00 p.m. start against the Falcons.

The BEARS will return home to face Houston on Friday, January 9 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for all BEARS home games are on sale now at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911.

Still the one: HERSHEY enters the final days of 2008 as the number one team in the AHL in wins (23), points (47) and winning percentage (.734). Should the BEARS possess the best winning percentage in the league after the games of January 4, Bob Woods and Mark French will travel to Worcester to coach the Canadian AHL All-Stars at the AHL All-Star Classic January 25-26. Manitoba has the second best winning percentage in the league at .694.

Neuvirth makes his debut: Goaltender Michal Neuvirth made his HERSHEY debut this past weekend, starting Saturday against Binghamton and Sunday against Albany. Neuvirth made 24 saves Sunday to earn his first AHL win in a 5-3 win over the River Rats at GIANT Center.

Holiday roster movement: Right wing Andrew Gordon made his NHL debut this past Tuesday for Washington against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Defenseman Bryan Helmer, who was also recalled last Tuesday, was named the number one star of the game this past Friday for the Caps against the Buffalo Sabres. Helmer was assigned to HERSHEY Saturday, and defenseman Tyler Sloan was assigned by Washington on Sunday.

Atlantic Division, Hello!:After playing just two games against the Atlantic Division in 2008-09 thus far, the BEARS will begin a four-game stretch against Atlantic Division competition Wednesday. HERSHEY will travel to Springfield, Providence, Hartford and Worcester in a span from December 31-January 4.

Washington update: The Capitals travel to Buffalo to face the Sabres Tuesday night for the team's final game of 2008. Washington returns home New Year's Night to play the Tampa Bay Lightning at Verizon Center. Face-off is at 7:00 p.m.
