Houston Aeros News Release

The Houston Aeros finished their three-in-three weekend with a dramatic comeback Sunday for a 4-3 shootout win after scoring three goals in the final 2:36 of regulation. The first two games Houston didn't fair so well with back-to-back losses against West Division foes. The Aeros moved into a tie with Chicago for third in the West with 38 points (16-12-1-5) putting the teams only three points out of first. Houston will host the Lake Erie Monsters Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. before heading on the longest road trip of the season with eight games in eight cities in 12 days. The Aeros are undefeated in five games played against Lake Erie having won all four games last season and the first meeting this year. The last time Houston hosted the Monsters was November 7 of last year. Tuesday's game is also Guns & Hoses Night with the Aeros where local Fire and Police Departments will be honored and compete in fun games against one another.

The road trip begins New Year's Eve in Worcester when the Aeros take on the Sharks at 6:35 p.m. for the second of two games against the club this season. Houston has lost the last two contests against the Sharks including a 5-3 loss at Toyota Center in November. The trip continues with a three-in-three this weekend for a total of five games in six nights. Friday the Aeros will play in Binghamton at 6:05 p.m. CST for their first pairing of the season. The game will be the first ever meeting between the teams so you don't want to miss what might happen. AHL LIVE allows fans to watch all the games via the internet and Joe O'Donnell will also be on 1070-AM KNTH - which can be heard online at AEROS.com - for all the action on the road. Saturday Houston will play the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at 6:05 p.m. CST to try and exact revenge from the loss at Toyota Center earlier this season. The Aeros will then travel to Providence to face the Bruins at 3:05 p.m. CST and try to extend their two-game winning streak dating back to March of last season. WEEK IN REVIEW Houston finished last week with a 1-2-0-0 record and moved into a tie for third place in the West Division. In the first two games of a three-in-three weekend, Houston RW Jesse Schultz doubled his season total with three goals, two against San Antonio Friday night and one in QuadCity Saturday. He finished the weekend with an assist on the game tying goal with two-tenths of a second left in Peoria to force overtime and eventually a shootout. Schultz also netted a goal in the shootout to help clinch the Aeros 4-3 victory in Peoria after trailing 3-0 with 2:36 remaining in regulation. On Friday and Saturday night Schultz combined for three goals in three shots and also recorded one shot on net Sunday. Two of his goals were power-play markers for a total of nine special teams' points (2-7=9) this season. The Houston Aeros entered Friday's game with a 10-0-1-2 record against the West Division but lost 5-3 to the San Antonio Rampage Friday night, also snapping the team's nine-game point streak. Forwards Ryan Hamilton and Bryan Lundbohm each returned to the Aeros lineup Friday. Both players had missed the previous nine games due to injury. Houston's Jesse Schultz tallied two goals in the game, his first two-goal performance of the season. He joined Krys Kolanos and Corey Locke as the only other Aeros to have multi-goal games this season. The Houston Aeros dropped their second straight game Saturday night when they lost to the Quad City Flames 3-2 at i wireless Center. Jesse Schultz and Mitch Love each scored for the Aeros, but the team never held a lead as Peter Vandermeer, Kris Chucko and David Van der Gulik all scored for the Flames. The season series is now tied at one win each for the Flames and Aeros. The Houston Aeros, down 3-0 with less than five minutes to play, defeated the Peoria Rivermen 4-3 in a shootout after tying the game with all three goals in the final 2:36 of regulation, Sunday night. For the second Sunday in a row at Peoria, Corey Locke tied the game in the waning moments of regulation, this time with only two-tenths of a second on the clock. Ryan Hamilton and Jesse Schultz each scored in the shootout as Nolan Schaefer stopped all attempts against for the Aeros win.
