Beloit Sky Carp News Release

Five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning sparked a Snapper comeback as they went on to beat the Peoria Chiefs by a final of 6-3. Charles Nolte picked up the win for Beloit, pitching one inning of scoreless relief.

Peoria got on the board first with one run in the top of the second and another run in the top of the fifth. The Chiefs got both runs off Beloit starter Brian Kirwan, who pitched six innings of two-run, eight-hit baseball. Peoria's two runs held up until the bottom of the seventh inning when the Snaps would explode.

Jair Fernandez got things rollin' for the Snappers in the seventh with a lead off homer to center field. Steve Singleton was then hit by a pitch and driven home off the bat of Joe Benson on an RBI-triple to right field. After an Ozzie Lewis strikeout, Ramon Santana delivered an RBI-single to second, scoring Benson from third base.

Ben Revere then advanced Santana to third with a base hit to left field. Santana was then plated on a Chris Cates RBI-ground out to third base. Cates' groundout also moved Revere into scoring position which, in turn, allowed him to score from second on a Garrett Olson RBI-double to right. The outburst put the Snaps ahead 5-2 after seven innings.

Beloit scored again in the bottom of the eighth inning on an Ozzie Lewis RBI-single to center. Lewis' single allowed Steve Singleton, who led the inning off with a bunt single, to score. Singleton's run put Beloit up 6-2.

Bradley Tippett dodged a Peoria run in the top of the ninth inning and got the final three outs of the game to pick up his first save of the season and send the Snappers to a 6-3 victory.

Joe Benson went 3 for 4 with a run and an RBI and Ben Revere added two hits for the Snappers who improved to 20-20 on the season. Peoria dropped to 14-27 on the year.
