Dragons Lose to Great Lakes 5-3

Dayton, Ohio-Alfredo Silverio drilled a game-tying home run in the eighth inning and delivered a tie-breaking sacrifice fly in the ninth as the Great Lakes Loons defeated the Dayton Dragons 5-3 on Friday night. The loss was the Dragons' third straight.

Dayton was limited to just two hits as their last 18 hitters were retired in order.

After Great Lakes took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, Logan Parker drilled a one-out home run in the Dayton second, his third of the season, to tie the game.

Dayton took the lead in the third. Kevyn Feiner reached on a two-base error to start the inning and Justin Reed walked. Keltavious Jones' fly out to center advanced Feiner to third. With the hit-and-run play on, Great Lakes pitcher Kyle Smit threw a wild pitch allowing Feiner to score and Reed to race all the way to third. Zack Cozart's ground out to short brought in Reed to make it 3-1.

Great Lakes scored one run in the fourth to pull to within one run and neither team scored again until the eighth when Silverio homered against Dragons reliever Terrell Young to tie the game.

In the ninth, Erik Kanaby doubled with one out against Dragons reliever Jeff Jeffords (2-1), then went to third on a bunt single by Jovanny Rosario, and scored on Silverio's sacrifice fly to center to give Great Lakes a 4-3 lead. Rosario eventually scored on Andrew Lambo's single to left to make it 5-3, and the Dragons were retired in order in the bottom of the inning.

Dragons starting pitcher Scott Carroll left the game with the lead but was not involved in the decision. He worked six innings, allowing seven hits and two runs with one walk and three strikeouts.

Brandon Waring led off the Dayton fourth inning with a single to left and was the final base runner of the game for the Dragons. Waring's single and Parker's home run were the only Dayton hits. Dragons hitters walked once and struck out 10 times.

The Dragons host Great Lakes in a day-night doubleheader on Saturday with games at 12:00 noon and 7:00 p.m. Both games are nine inning games.
