Beloit, WI - The Peoria Chiefs blew a great start by Billy Muldowney as the bullpen gave up five runs in the seventh inning in a 6-3 loss to the Beloit Snappers Friday night. The loss drops the Chiefs to a season-worst 14-27 as they begin a seven-game road trip.

With the Chiefs up 2-0 in the seventh, Jair Fernandez led off with a solo homer to center. Audy Santana hit the next batter, Steve Singleton, before giving up a game-tying triple to Joe Benson. After a strikeout, Ramon Santana but the Snappers up for good when he singled through a drawn-in infield. Ben Revere singled to put runners on the corners and Craig Muschko relieved Santana. Chris Cates drove home a run with a ground out and Garrett Olson made it 5-2 with a double to right. Beloit added a sixth run off Muschko in the eighth when Ozzie Lewis singled home Steve Singleton.

The Chiefs struck first in the second inning against Snappers starter Brian Kirwan. After a walk and a double play, Jovan Rosa drew a full-count walk and newcomer Luis Bautista singled to center. Dylan Johnston gave the Chiefs a 1-0 lead when his single to right drove home Rosa. Bautista was thrown out at third on the play to end the inning.

Peoria doubled their lead in the fifth inning. Johnston led off with a single and Elvis Lara followed with a hit to left. Jeffrey Rea laid down a sacrifice bunt and Nate Samson drove home Johnston with a sac fly to deep left. Trailing 6-2 in the ninth, Johnston led off with a solo homer to left. The home run is his fifth of the season, all on the road. The next three Chiefs were retired in order as Brad Tippett nailed down his first save. Muldowney threw five shutout innings and only allowed two hits. The right-hander struck out three, walked two and hit one. Santana (0-3) took the loss as he allowed five runs on four hits over 1 1/3 innings of work. Muschko allowed one run on five hits while walking one and striking out two.

Player of the Game - Dylan Johnston (RF) - Dylan singled home a run in the second, singled and scored in the fifth and homered in the ninth. The homer was his first on a non-Saturday and he added an outfield assist as well.

Notes...Johnston now has a career-high seven game hit streak...All 13 of Johnston's RBI have come on the road where he is hitting more than 200 points higher than he is at home 19-56 (.351 vs. .130)...With the roster moves earlier in the day, Johnston made his first career start in right field and Rosa made his first start of the season at third base...Marquez Smith sat out for just the second time all-season as he leads the Chiefs with 39 games played...In his last 10 innings of work, Muldowney has allowed just six hits and all have been doubles...Game two of the three-game series is Saturday at 6:30 PM...The Chiefs will send LH Zach Ashwood (0-5, 5.40) to the mound against RH Santos Arias (1-1, 2.81) for the Snappers...The game can be heard live beginning with the pre-game show at 6:15 PM online at www.peoriachiefs.com or on WOAM 1350.
