May 16, 2008 - Efren Navarro, Jeremy Moore and Julio Perez all homered, but it was the Clinton LumberKings that had the last cheer in a 7-6, 10 inning win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels in front of 2,722 fans at Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Friday night.

The Kernels jumped on Clinton starter Blake Beavan for six runs (five earned) on six hits in the first three innings, but could manage just one more hit over the final seven as the LumberKings scored the game-winning runs in the top of the 10th on a two-out triple and single off Kernel reliever Ryan Brasier (0-3).

Kernels starter Trevor Reckling allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits, walked four and struck out three in a no-decision effort. Brian Chambers and Eddie McKiernan combined to allow a run on three hits and strike out six.

Moore finished the night two for four and Perez's home run was a two-run shot. Angel Castillo added a double and Clay Fuller led off the game with a triple.

Clinton reliever Hector Nelo (1-1) walked two and struck out three over two innings for the win.

The Kernels and LumberKings play game two of this three game series Saturday night at 6:30 pm. Gates open at 5:30 pm and the Kernels welcome guests from Coolidge and Jackson Elementary Schools to the game.
