Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Andrew Brown became the fourth Quad Cities River Bandits player this season to earn a promotion to the high-A Florida State League, promoted to Palm Beach on Friday by the St. Louis Cardinals. In a corresponding move, Francisco Rivera was called up from Extended Spring Training to fill his roster spot.
Brown, a 23-year-old first baseman from Carrolton, Texas, was hitting .274 with a team-high five home runs and 23 RBI for the River Bandits through his first 34 games of the season. He was especially hot as of late, as the 18th-round pick out of the University of Nebraska was in the midst of a six-game hitting streak in which he was batting .400 with six doubles and a home run. Brown, who had settled into the cleanup spot in manager Steve Dillard's lineup, will replace former Quad Cities first baseman Brandon Buckman, who was placed on the Palm Beach Disabled List Friday.
Taking Brown's spot on the Quad Cities roster is Francisco Rivera, a 19-year-old outfielder from Medellin de Bravo, Mexico. Rivera, who was signed by the Cardinals on January 19, 2007, will be making his professional debut when he appears in his first game for the River Bandits.
The Quad Cities River Bandits roster currently stands at 25 active players, the maximum allowed by the Midwest League. An updated roster accompanies this release.
UP NEXT: The River Bandits are in the midst of a seven-game commuter trip that winds down over the weekend with a three-game series in Burlington starting Friday. Quad Cities will return to Davenport to welcome in Ryne Sandberg and the Peoria Chiefs on Monday, May 19, for Make-a-Wish Night and Indiana Jones Night. The series will continue with a Two-for-Tuesday and then an autographed baseball giveaway on Wednesday before Bad Fad Night hits the Quad Cities on a Thirst-day Thursday. Merchandise featuring the new team name and logo is currently available by visiting the Modern Woodmen Park team store, and season ticket packages, mini-packages, and the popular You-Pick-10 Plan are on sale at the park or by calling (563) 3-BANDITS!
