July 23, 2008 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
Harrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg Senators saw their roster change again Wednesday. RHPs Josh Perrault and Craig Stammen were transferred to Triple-A Columbus while INF Marco Yepez was placed on the Disabled List retroactive to July 21st. RHP Zack Segovia was added from Advanced-A Potomac while INF Jemel Spearman joined the team from Columbus.
Perrault, 26, was a member of the Senators' Opening Day roster. He went 4-2 with a 4.78 ERA in 36 appearances out of the bullpen. This is his second advance to Triple-A; he made a spot start for Tucson in 2004 as a member of the Diamondbacks organization.
Stammen, 24, went 3-1 with a 1.64 ERA in six starts with the Senators. He won his last three starts. Stammen opened the season with Advanced-A Potomac and has already had a one-game stint with Columbus this year. He made a single start at Triple-A last season.
Yepez, 26, was on the Senators' Opening Day roster. He is hitting .252 with 1 home run and 21 RBIs in 53 games this season. Yepez is officially on the Disabled List retroactive to July 21st with a groin injury.
Segovia, 25, joins his sixth minor-league team of the season. He was a second-round pick by the Phillies in the 2002 draft. Segovia has appeared this season with Reading, Clearwater, the Gulf Coast League Nationals, Hagerstown and Potomac. With Potomac, he went 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA in three starts. Segovia opened last season on Philadelphia's MLB roster and made one big-league start before being optioned to Triple-A Ottawa.
Spearman, 27, opened this season with Potomac before a promotion to Columbus on May 22nd. With the Clippers, he hit .260 with a home run, 12 RBIs and 4 stolen bases in 25 games. Spearman was originally a 16th-round draft pick by the Cubs in 2002.
With the moves, the Senators have 23 players on the active roster, one short of the Eastern League maximum of 24. The additions of Segovia and Spearman mean 57 different players have suited up for the Senators this year. Only five players from the Opening Day roster remain on the active roster. Only one player from the Opening Day starting lineup (OF Mike Daniel) has remained on the active roster in Harrisburg for the entire season to date.
The Senators continue a four-game road series against the Bowie Baysox tonight at 7:05 PM. They return home on Friday, July 25th against the Altoona Curve (Double-A Pittsburgh Pirates). Tickets can be purchased by calling the Senators' box office at 231-4444 or online at www.senatorsbaseball.com.
