Aerodynamics...

The Three Amigos...Three Aeros hurlers held the Curve to just one run on five hits in Akron's 7-1 win over Altoona last night. Starter Steven Wright pitched five innings and allowed all five hits and the run, which came on a Jason Bowers single in the third inning. Wright escaped a jam in the fifth when two singles and a walk loaded the bases with two away, as the right-hander froze Brad Corley looking to strike out the side. LHP Reid Santos, pitching for the second time in as many days, worked two perfect innings and RHP Luis Perdomo followed him with the same performance, retiring all six hitters in the eighth and ninth frames and recording a pair of strikeouts.

Swinging Steady...The Aeros scored in five different innings last night, putting pressure on Altoona pitching the entire game. Akron scored twice in the second, with the first run coming on a sacrifice fly from DH Nathan Panther to score 1B Matt Whitney, before C Wyatt Toregas blasted his 10th home run of the season to make it 2-0. 2B Josh Rodriguez scored on a fielding error by second baseman Angel Gonzalez in the third, and in the sixth Rodriguez drove in Panther on a sac fly. Whitney powered a two-run homer to make it 6-1 in the seventh inning, and the final run scored in the ninth, coming on an RBI fielder's choice by Whitney for his third RBI of the game and his 49th of the season.

A Change at the Top...It didn't take long, as Aeros C Wyatt Toregas is now tied for the team lead in home runs with 10 in just 26 games with Akron. 3B Wes Hodges also has 10 home runs on the year, but the league's top RBI man has just one dinger since June 18th. Toregas didn't join the Aeros until June 19th after spending the first part of the year at Class AAA Buffalo, but the Virginia Tech product has averaged one home run every 8.9 at-bats since joining Akron. He hit three home runs at Erie July 2nd, and later had a string of three straight games with a homer. He is also driving in runs at a break-neck rate with 29 RBI in 26 games. Toregas is hitting .337 at Akron this season and has hit in 12 of his last 13 games.

Walk This Way...Aeros hitters and pitchers know the value of a free pass to first base, as they lead the Eastern League in walks drawn and walks allowed, respectively. Aeros hitters, who drew five walks last night, have now drawn 415 free passes this season, five more than second-place Harrisburg. Akron pitchers, meanwhile, have allowed the least number of walks in the league with 297, 17 fewer than Connecticut. However, both the hitting and pitching units will need to pick up the pace to set franchise records. The hitters are on pace to draw 572 walks (with the record at 593 in 1997), with the pitchers on pace to walk 409 hitters (with the team record for fewest walks at 389, set by the 2005 EL Champions).

Did You Know...With last night's win, Akron's magic number to clinch first place is now down to 35.
