
Thunder rallies for late win

(Manchester, NH)- Trenton Third baseman Chris Malec had the go-ahead RBI triple in the ninth inning to help lead Trenton past New Hampshire 3-1 on Wednesday night from Merchantsauto.com Stadium in Manchester, NH. Trenton broke a 1-1 tie with two ninth inning runs.
Thunder Center fielder Austin Jackson started the ninth inning with a double off of New Hampshire reliever Zach Dials (2-3). First baseman Chris Malec followed with an RBI triple to left-center field to give the Thunder a 2-1 lead. Designated hitter Colin Curtis then singled home Malec to make it 3-1. Dials's run of 12 straight apperances without giving up a run was broken with the two-run frame. The runs were the first that he allowed since June 14th. Thunder reliever Mark Melancon (6-0) picked up the win by tossing two shutout innings in relief. Trenton (64-38) scored the first run of the contest in the first inning on an RBI single by Curtis. New Hampshire tied the game in the second inning on an RBI groundout by Left fielder Eric Nielsen.
Thunder starting pitcher Chase Wright earned a no-decision as he went seven innings. He allowed only five hits and one earned run. He struck out one and walked. New Hampshire starting pitcher Ricky Romero picked up a no-decision. He only gave up five hits and one earned run in eight innings. Jackson had two hits for the Thunder and extended his hitting streak to 10 games. He has now had three different double-digit hitting streaks this season.
Trenton will look to take the final game of the series on Thursday afternoon as RHP Eric Hakcer (5-1, 2.37) will start for the Thunder against New Hampshire RHP Brandon Magee (3-11, 5.11). Game time is set for 12:05 p.m.
