Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI - Wings Stadium, which is also home to "The Annex" and "The Cube," announces Greg Ahrens and TMS Fight Night will return the popular Fight Night series Friday, March 23rd and Saturday, March 24th.
Friday's Realman Fight Night will feature over 40 local fighters competing one on one, in the ring, to separate the meek from the mighty. Fighters will be matched by age, height, weight, and boxing experience. Each bout is 3-one minute rounds of fighting, with boxers wearing 16 ounce gloves, headgear, groin protectors and mouthpieces. Trained medical staff from USA BOXING will be ringside at all times and pre-bout physicals and post fight exams will be given to ensure the safety of the fighters.
Toughman Professional Boxing Series will hit the ring Saturday featuring 10 World Class Matches overseen by the State of Michigan Board of Athletic Control. Headlining the night in the main event, Doug LaFontsee of Grand Rapids, as the current Toughman Professional Light Heavyweight Champion will put his belt on the line against Chillicothe, Ohio's Dustin Caplinger. (Caplinger's most notable fight was against Detroit's undefeated Marlin Thomas).
The undercard is full of many exciting, action-packed, equally-matched bouts including Battle Creek's own, Keith Hendryx squaring off against Ole "The Lumberjack" Thorson of Skidway Lake. (Ole is a multiple time Toughman Champion and runner up in the 2003 and 2005 World Championships.) Former Western Michigan University running back, Daniel Marks, now a business owner in Kalamazoo, will make his professional debut against Michigan Correction's Officer Walter Kienbaum of Midland.
2003 World Toughman Champion, Dan White of Battle Creek, will return to the ring after his last fight against Butterbean, to challenge undefeated Flint, MI native Runnell Lay. Other notable fighters from the area include Muskegon's Eddie Tice who was featured on Fox Sports Detroit; Battle Creek's former amateur stand out Guy Packer; "The Parma Pit Bull" Lonnie Pieffer coming off a huge win in his last fight in December; Battle Creek MMA Champion Cameron Allen; and Max Faurot. One of southwest Michigan's favorite fighters, Faurot, a Marshall native, has fought amateur boxing, mixed martial arts, kickboxing and now in his professional debut. The card is completed with grudge rematches between Jim Hall of Owosso and Patrick Byrd of Flint (brother of HW Champion Chris Byrd).
