Faragher, Idaho Knock off Wichita, 3-1
December 17, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release
Boise, ID (Dec. 15th) - Wichita ran into a hot goaltender on Friday night, losing 3-1 to Idaho at CenturyLink Arena. Ryan Faragher made 32 saves to hold down the Thunder offense.
Jeremy Beaudry scored the lone Thunder goal late in the third period to prevent a shutout.
Mark MacMillan had a chance to give Wichita the lead when he was pulled down on a rush to the net with seven minutes left in second period. Faragher denied his penalty shot with a save and the game remained scoreless. Jefferson Dahl gave the Steelheads a 1-0 lead at 14:39. At 16:06, Joe Faust dumped the puck up the right boards, took a weird carom back towards the Thunder net and got past Joel Rumpel to make it 2-0.
Idaho increased the lead to 3-0 in the third when A.J. White intercepted an outlet pass and dished it to Henrik Samuelsson. The Thunder offense started to buzz, but Faragher stopped them at every turn through the middle of the frame. Beaudry scored at 19:37 as he wired a shot from the right boards to make it 3-1. Wichita had an offensive zone face-off and pulled Rumpel for the extra attacker. Travis Brown fired a shot that caught the iron and the game ended with a 3-1 loss.
MacMillan's penalty shot was the first of the season for the Thunder. Jeremy Beaudry grabbed his fifth goal of the year. Rumpel stopped 26 of 29 shots. Faragher claims his fifth win of the season, stopping 32 of 33 shots he faced.
Wichita went 0-for-6 on the power play. Idaho was 0-for-7 on the man advantage.
The Thunder closes their five-game road trip with another meeting tomorrow night against the Idaho Steelheads at 8:10 p.m. CST.
