Day Chief's Hat Trick Propels Cyclones Past Mallards

CINCINNATI, Ohio (December 15, 2017) - Winston Day Chief rang up a hat trick as the host Cincinnati Cyclones (14-9-1) defeated the Quad City Mallards (8-14-1) 6-1 Friday night.

Jesse Schultz scored the first of six straight Cyclone goals on a breakaway one minute, 36 seconds into the game. Day Chief tipped in Cincinnati's second at 11:11 of the first period.

The Cyclones broke the game open with three second period goals. Daniel Muzito-Bagenda stretched the gap to 3-0 from the left wing circle at 7:16 of the second. Day Chief then scored his second from close range at 14:48. Chris Leone snapped home the fifth Cyclone goal from the blue line with just under two minutes left in the second.

Eric Hartzell, who made his Mallard debut in goal when he replaced starting netminder C.J. Motte at the start of the third period, was beaten for the first time when Day Chief completed his hat trick by roofing the puck at 12:58 of the third. The Mallards were on the power play when Willie Raskob spoiled Cincinnati goaltender Anthony Peters' shutout bid by scoring from the high slot with just one minute, 18 seconds remaining.

Earlier Friday, the Mallards traded defenseman Ales Sova to the Kansas City Mavericks in exchange for financial considerations. Sova, a 26-year old native of the Czech Republic, picked up one assist in 16 games with the Mallards this season.

The Mallards and Cyclones meet again tomorrow night in Cincinnatii . The Mallards next play at home next Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. against the Fort Wayne Komets. Fans can enjoy $1 10-ounce beers from TaxSlayer Center concession stands during all Mallards Wednesday home games this season.
