Brampton Beast News Release
BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - Daniel Ciampini had two points and Marcus Hogberg made 22 saves as the Brampton Beast were defeated by the Toledo Walleye 5-2 on Friday night.
The Beast welcomed the Walleye to the Powerade Centre for the second time this season.
Both clubs had some good chances in the early going but it was the Beast who really turned on the pressure as the first period wore on.
Toldeo goalie Pat Nagle and Beast netminder Marcus Hogberg each carried clean sheets into the first intermission. The shots favoured the Beast after the first by a slim count of 9-7.
Toledo opened the scoring in the second period courtesy of Christian Hilbrich. The big forward was able to tuck the puck in short side and give the Walleye the lead at 4:01.
Not long after Toldeo struck again. This time it was Erik Bradford finding twine behind Hogberg. He gave the Walleye a 2-0 lead at 8:33.
Brampton needed to get something going after two quick Toledo strikes. It turned out to be Daniel Ciampini providing the spark with his first of the year.
A couple of nifty passes from Chris Leveille and David Vallorani ended up on the stick of Ciampini. He picked his spot and sent it right over the glove of Nagle at 10:59. That cut into the Walleye lead and made the score 2-1.
Brampton had the momentum but Toledo snatched it right back with a goal in the last minute of play. Former Beast forward Connor Crisp slid a rebound home along the ice to give the Walleye a 3-1 lead heading into the third period.
Shots after the second were 20-18 in favour of the visitors.
The Beast came out for the third fired up and ready to give the period an honest effort. It paid off fairly early on the power play courtesy of Reggie Traccitto. The offensive defenseman unleashed a bullet from the circle to pull Brampton within one at 9:04.
Brampton tried to tie the game but Toledo had other ideas. With the goalie pulled Kyle Bonis was able throw the puck into the open net at 19:11.
Toledo would add one more from Austen Brassard at 19:48 to officially end the game with a 5-2 score. Hogberg takes the loss and finishes the night with 22 saves.
Notes: Molson Three Stars 3) #12 Traccitto (BRA) 2) #20 Ciampini (BRA) 1) #9 Denis (TOL). Brampton finished the contest one-for-four on the man advantage. Brampton's penalty kill was perfect on the night. The Beast will be in Kalamazoo Saturday night to take on the Wings before returning home for a Sunday clash against the Atlanta Gladiators at 2 PM.
