Indy Hangs On, Edges Mallards 2-1

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Etienne Marcoux made 37 saves and the host Indy Fuel (8-11-3) hung on for a narrow 2-1 victory after jumping out to 2-0 lead over the Quad City Mallards (8-13-1) Thursday night.

Matt Rupert scored the game's first goal from point blank range at 9:10 of the first period.

Michael Neal doubled the Fuel lead by firing the puck in under the crossbar from the high slot at 7:19 of the second period.

The Mallards battled back within one when Chris Francis scored from the goalmouth at 12:08 of the third period, but Marcoux, unruffled after having his shutout bid foiled, held off the Mallards the rest of way.

The Mallards' comeback bid fell short even though they outshot Indy 12-6 in the third period and 38-35 on the night.

The Mallards return to action tomorrow night on the road against the Cincinnati Cyclones . The Mallards next play at home next Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. against the Fort Wayne Komets. Fans can enjoy $1 10-ounce beers from TaxSlayer Center concession stands during all Mallards Wednesday home games this season.
