Wichita Makes First-Ever Trip to Boise to Face Steelheads
December 17, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release
Boise, ID (December 15th) - Wichita continues its five-game road trip tonight and makes its first-ever visit to Boise to face the Idaho Steelheads.
Tonight is the first meeting between the two teams since the 2015-16 season with both games coming at INTRUST Bank Arena. The Thunder won the first meeting on February 20th by the final of 3-2 in overtime, but lost the next day in overtime by the final of 5-4.
The Thunder are coming off a tough loss on Wednesday night in Colorado. After trailing 3-0 in the first 12 minutes, Wichita climbed back into the game and tied it early in the third period. The Eagles went on to win the contest, 4-3, putting the Thunder three points back in second place.
Idaho used a three-goal first period on Wednesday night and never looked back in a 5-2 win against Rapid City. The victory moved the Steelheads into a second-place tie with Wichita heading into tonight's meeting.
Wichita and Idaho have a lot of connections despite only playing two times since the Thunder joined the ECHL. Former Thunder Head Coach Derek Laxdal left Wichita in 2005 to come to Idaho to be the Steelheads coach. He is currently in the American Hockey League with the Texas Stars. Travis Wight and Ian Lowe both spent time in Boise before joining the Thunder. Travis Ewanyk played for the Steelheads last season before being dealt to Fort Wayne at the trade deadline. Etienne Boutet played 25 games for Idaho before leaving to go to college.
Idaho is led by Brady Brassart, who has 23 points (11g, 12a) in 21 games while Justin Parizek and Steven McParland both have 12 goals and 22 points. Mark MacMillan leads the Thunder with 19 points (11g, 8a). Travis Ewanyk (8g, 9a) and Greg Chase (7g, 10a) each have 17 points.
Individual tickets for all games are on sale now. Season tickets are still available for purchase. Get your seats for just $15 per month. All it takes is a $50 deposit per seat to reserve yours today. To learn more, click here or contact a Thunder representative at the office today!
