Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons (13-3-1-1) had their six-game winning streak snapped Friday night in Manchester, as the team fell by the final score of 4-3 in overtime to the Monarchs. The team has earned at least a point in seven consecutive games.
Nick Deslauriers scored the game-winning goal for Manchester 1:19 into overtime, picking up a loose puck in the Springfield zone and beating Falcons netminder Jeremy Smith. Deslauriers also scored the equalizer at 14:27 of the third period, evening the score at 3-3.
Springfield held a 3-1 lead late in the third period. The Falcons scored twice in a 25-second span at the end of the first period to take a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes. Ryan Craig got the team on the board at 17:51 of the opening frame, receiving a pass from Cody Bass and beating Manchester goaltender Jean-Francois Berube to even the score 1-1. For Craig, the goal was his second of the season and 62nd as a member of the Falcons, good for sole possession of fifth on the franchise's all-time goal list.
Jonathan Marchessault then gave Springfield a 2-1 edge, netting a backhanded shot at 18:16.
Cody Goloubef put the Falcons ahead 3-1 with a power-play tally at 6:55 of the second period, firing a slap shot from the high slot. For Goloubef, the goal was his second of the season and second in as many games.
Maxim Kitsyn and Jordan Weal also found the back of the net for the Monarchs.
Smith earned his first loss since October 30, making 26 saves on 30 shots to fall to 8-2-1 this season. Berube stopped 31 of 34 shots for Manchester to improve to 5-2-1 in 2013-14.
The Falcons outplayed the Monarchs on special teams, going 1-for-3 on the power play, while holding Manchester scoreless on four attempts with the man advantage.
The overtime loss was the first decision in overtime for Springfield this season. The team is now 0-1 in games decided in the five-minute extra period.
