Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ONTARIO - Hamilton Bulldogs forward Gabriel Dumont scored less than four minutes into the second period to cut the Toronto Marlies' lead to 2-1, but that's as close as the 'Dogs (9-9-0-3) would get as they fell 3-1 to the Marlies (11-7-1-0) on Friday night at Copps Coliseum.
Toronto forward Jerry D'Amigo opened the scoring at 13:03 of the opening period when he accepted a Josh Leivo pass all alone in front of the net and beat Bulldogs goaltender Robert Mayer glove side. Forward Sam Carrick earned the second assist on the play.
At 3:17 of the second period, with one second to go in a penalty to Bulldogs defenceman Jarred Tinordi, Marlies forward David Broll picked the far side top corner of the Hamilton net to extend Toronto's lead to 2-0. Leivo earned his second assist of the night on the play.
Just 41 seconds later, Dumont dangled his way past a couple of Marlies defenders to the slot and slid a backhand shot past Toronto netminder Drew MacIntyre. Hamilton rookie defenceman Darren Dietz earned his first professional point with the only assist on the play.
Just under two minutes later, Carrick took a cross-ice feed from Marlies forward Spencer Abbott and one-timed a shot past Mayer to make it 3-1 Toronto. D'Amigo earned a second assist on the play.
The two clubs traded 10 shots apiece in the final 20 minutes, but the 'Dogs couldn't solve MacIntyre a second time.
Mayer made 26 saves on 29 shots in the Bulldogs net in the loss. MacIntyre made 24 saves on 25 shots for the Marlies in the win.
The Bulldogs went 0-for-2 on the power play, while the Marlies went 1-for-5.
