Portland Pirates News Release
Lewiston, ME - The Portland Pirates and Worcester Sharks will do battle in the annual Black Friday game tonight at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. Puck drops at 7 pm for the final Pirates home game of November as the Pirates look to extend their home point streak to 4 games.
The Pirates traveled to Hartford on Wednesday to face the Wolf Pack, with Hartford taking a 4-1 victory. Lucas Lessio had the lone Pirates goal as Hartford rookie goaltender Jeff Malcolm won his first professional game. The defeat ended the Pirates 7 game point streak, despite the Pirates' perfect record on the penalty kill for the second straight game. 9 fighting majors were assessed in a very chippy contest, with Kyle Hagel picking up 17 penalty minutes to lead both teams.
Worcester is coming off two straight shootout victories at home, first over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers last Saturday and then a victory over the Manchester Monarchs last Sunday. In Sunday's contest, Worcester got goals from Matt Tennyson and Rylan Schwartz, with Sabastian Stalberg supplying the game winner in the shootout. Troy Grosenick made 18 saves for Worcester in the victory.
Key Bank Key to the Game
Home Sweet Home: The Pirates have a 3 game home point streak and will look to extend it tonight. With the loss on Wednesday, the Pirates' 7 game point streak came to an end, and a strong start will invigorate the home crowd and help the Pirates get back on track.
The Pirates and Sharks last met at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee on November 8th for Military Appreciation Night. The Pirates picked up a 5-1 victory over Worcester for their first home victory of the season. Lucas Lessio scored twice for the Pirates, with Brandon McMillan, Brandon Yip, and Gilbert Brule also supplying goals. Mark Visentin made 45 saves, the second most of his career, in the victory.
