Grand Rapids Griffins News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Friday recalled center Luke Glendening from the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Glendening, a 24-year-old native of East Grand Rapids, made his debut with the Griffins last season, becoming the first Greater Grand Rapids product to play for the organization. After beginning his first pro season with the ECHL's Toledo Walleye, recording 21 points (14-7 - 21) in 27 games, he was recalled to Grand Rapids in December and produced 26 points (8-18 - 26) over 51 regular season contests.
A key cog in the Griffins' run to the Calder Cup, Glendening appeared in all 24 playoff games and tied for third on the team and first among AHL rookies with 16 points (6-10 - 16). He subsequently signed a one-year contract with the Red Wings on July 5.
The 5-foot-11, 195-pound forward spent four years at the University of Michigan, captaining the team during his junior and senior years. He finished his collegiate career with 70 points (31-39 - 70) in 165 games with the Wolverines from 2008-12.
The Red Wings will host the Philadelphia Flyers at Joe Louis Arena tomorrow at 7 p.m., when Glendening is slated to make his NHL debut and become the 133rd Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL.
The Griffins face the Hamilton Bulldogs on the road Saturday at 7 p.m. before returning to Grand Rapids for their home opener on Friday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. against the Milwaukee Admirals.
