Edmonton Oil Kings Select Sherwood Park's Mark Pysyk As First Bantam Draft Pick

The Edmonton Oil Kings, the Western Hockey League's newest major junior hockey franchise, made their debut at the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft in Calgary today, and selected Sherwood Park native Mark Pysyk as their first Bantam Draft Pick.

A 15-year old defenceman with the Strathcona Warriors of the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League, Mark Pysyk measures 6 feet tall and weighs 165 pounds. He accumulated 49 points this season (15 goals, 34 assists, 33 games played), and recently played in the Alberta Cup Bantam hockey tournament.

"We are very excited to have chosen Mark with our inaugural Bantam Draft Pick. We had Mark at the top of our list and are very pleased to have gotten him with the 3rd pick," said Bob Green, General Manager of the Edmonton Oil Kings. "Mark is a big, strong, defensemen with a high skill level who should be a big part of our future."

The Edmonton Oil Kings will hold a media availability with General Manager Bob Green and inaugural draft pick Mark Pysyk at Rexall Place on Friday, May 4th, at 10:00 a.m., in the Oil Kings Locker Room.
