Giants Take 13 Players In 2007 WHL Bantam Draft

The Vancouver Giants have selected 13 players from Western Canada and the United States in the 2007 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

With their first pick, the Giants selected MITCH SPOONER from Port Moody, B.C. Spooner is a 6'0", 170 lbs. right defenceman. In 41 games this season, Spooner had 28 goals, 29 assists and 44 penalty minutes.

Spooner is one of nine B.C. born players selected by the Giants in this year's draft. All players will not be eligible to play their first full season in the WHL until the 2008-09 season.

2nd Pick (52nd overall): Greg Lamoureux (Calgary, AB) C, 5'11", 155lbs.

3rd Pick (63rd overall): Lane Scheidl (Saskatoon, SK) C, 5'11", 180 lbs.

4th Pick (100th overall): Brandon Scholten (Langley, BC) D, 6'0", 175 lbs.

5th Pick (108th overall): Simon Witt (Victoria, BC) D, 6'3" 185 lbs.

6th Pick (121st overall): Mikael Jung (Nanaimo, BC), RW, 5'9", 150 lbs.

7th Pick (129th overall): Wes Vannieuwenhuizen (Chilliwack, BC), D, 6'1", 192 lbs.

8th Pick (151st overall): Sahir Gill (Abbotsford, BC), C, 5'11", 155lbs.

9th Pick (195th overall): Brendan Gallagher (Tsawwassen, BC), RW, 5'5", 145 lbs.

10th Pick (214th overall): J.T. Barnett (Scottsdale, Arizona), LW, 5'10", 178 lbs.

11th Pick (232nd overall): Ben Otto (Calgary, AB), C, 6'0", 180 lbs.

12th Pick (236th overall): Dominic Toigo (Tsawwassen, BC), D, 6'0", 175 lbs.

13th Pick (249th overall): Jay Deo (Langley, BC), G, 5'6", 170 lbs.
