Tips Select 12 Players in 2007 WHL Bantam Draft

The 2006-2007 US Division and WHL Regular Season Champions, Everett Silvertips along with the other 21 teams in the WHL held the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft in Calgary, AB on Thursday. The Silvertips selected a total of 12 players in this year's draft. The Silvertips selected a goaltender in the 1st round (22nd overall) in the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft in Edmonton, AB native Kent Simpson. Simpson was the second goaltender drafted in the 1st round of the 2007 draft. The 6'1", 175 pound netminder played for the Edmonton South Side Athletic Club and posted a 13-6-1 record with a 3.43 GAA, and a .901% SP.

The WHL Bantam Draft is the WHL's talent identification process and serves as the first opportunity for WHL teams to add 1992 born players to their respective 50 player lists. Eligible players for the Bantam Draft will be 1992 born players who reside in Alberta, B.C., Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Yukon, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

1st Round (22nd Overall)

Kent Simpson (G)-Edmonton, AB

Date of Birth: March 26, 1992

2006-2007 Stats: 30 Games Played for Edmonton South Side Athletic Club, 13-6-1 Record, 3.43 GAA, .901 SP

Scouting Report: A big, solid, competitive goaltender. Great work ethic and makes big saves at the big times in a hockey game. Should grow into a good size goaltender. Very focused goaltender like Leland Irving was as a Bantam.

2nd Round (44th Overall)

Gabriel Minville (D)-Winnipeg, MB

Height: 6-2

Weight: 210

Date of Birth: May 4, 1992

2006-2007 Stats: Played in 28 games with the Winnipeg Warriors (Bant. AAA) and added 7 goals and 15 assists for 22 points with 118 penalty minutes. Also played 8 games for the Winnipeg Warriors (Midget AAA) squad and collected a goal and 5 assists for 6 points.

Scouting Report: A big, two-way defenseman. A very tough defender that adds a physical element to his game. Has good offensive flare and puck moving skills.

3rd Round (66th Overall)

D. Jay McGrath (C)-Kindersley, SK

Height: 5-9

Date of Birth: June 13, 1992

2006-2007 Stats: Tallied 23 goals and 20 assists for 43 points in 18 games for Kindersley Bantam.

Scouting Report: A skilled forward with great agility. Great skater with good speed.

4th Round (76th Overall)

Justin Waskewitch (C)-Cutknife, SK

Height: 5-11

Weight: 165

Date of Birth: March 24, 1992

2006-2007 Stats: Split time with Fort Saskatchewan and North Battleford Bantam. Played a total of 31 games and recorded 30 goals and 31 assists for 61 points.

Scouting Report: A very skilled and creative forward. Loves to be a creative player on the ice and opens up the ice for his teammates.

4th Round (85th Overall)

Devan McLean (C)-Chilliwack, BC

Height: 6-0

Weight: 175

Date of Birth: September 23, 1992

2006-2007 Stats: Played in 40 games with Chilliwack Bantam and posted 31 goals and 42 assists for 73 points with 155 penalty minutes.

Scouting Report: Described as an agitator with skill. A very hard player to play against. Has good skill and a very hard nosed type player.

5th Round (98th Overall)

Kyle Janzen (D)-Saskatoon, SK

Height: 6-1

Weight: 180

Date of Birth: February 28, 1992

2006-2007 Stats: Tallied 16 goals and 20 assists for 36 points in 53 games with the Saskatoon Frostbite (Bantam AA). Also added 136 penalty minutes.

Scouting Report: A big, solid, and steady two way defenseman. A hard worker and plays in all situations. Was the captain for his team and has great leadership skills.

6th Round (127th Overall)

Brett Kolins (D)-Abbottsford, BC

Date of Birth: January 12, 1992

2006-2007 Stats: Played in 60 games for Abbottsford (BANT AAA) and added 7 goals and 34 assists for 41 points with 122 penalty minutes.

Scouting Report: A good puck moving defenseman that is very stable on the power play. Steady in his own end on the ice.

6th Round (132nd Overall)

Scouting Report: A big forward with good skill. Has the ability to make good, smart plays.

7th Round (144th Overall)

Mitch Boucher (D)-Moose Jaw, SK

2006-2007 Stats: Played 22 games for Moose Jaw Bantam and recorded 5 assists.

Scouting Report: A good puck moving defenseman. Great skater that can skate the puck up the ice.

7th Round (154th Overall)

Campbell Elynuik (C)-Calgary, AB

Date of Birth: December 25, 1992

2006-2007 Stats: Suited up in 34 games for the Calgary Bruins (Bantam AA) and tallied 8 goals and 19 assists for 27 points with 62 penalty minutes.

Scouting Report: A very hard working hockey player. A great skater and a good two way forward. Good skill and can contribute on the score sheet. Is the son of former NHL player Pat Elynuik who played for the Winnipeg Jets, Washington Capitals, Tampa Bay Lightning and Ottawa Senators from 1987 to 1996.

8th Round (176th Overall)

Devin Dambrauskas (D)-Calgary, AB

Date of Birth: June 9, 1992

2006-2007 Stats: Played in 32 games for the Calgary Royals (Bantam AAA). Tallied 8 goals and 11 assists for 19 points and 89 penalty minutes.

Scouting Report: A big, tough, physical defenseman. A good skater for his size and age.

10th Round (220th Overall)

Jordan Duncan (D)-Prince George, BC

Height: 5-9

2006-2007 Stats: Played in 45 games with Prince George (Bantam AAA). Tallied 25 goals and 24 assists for 49 points.

Scouting Report: Great skater and fantastic speed. Good competitor and has the ability to work the power play. Was the captain of his team and shows great leadership skills.
