Edmonton Makes Two Trades That Impact Barons
February 28, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Oklahoma City Barons News Release
Oklahoma City - The Edmonton Oilers, parent club of the Oklahoma City Barons, made two trades earlier today that impact the Barons.
In the first trade, the Oilers acquired defenseman Kevin Montgomery from the Colorado Avalanche for defenseman Shawn Belle. Montgomery, 22, has appeared in 51 games this season with the Lake Erie Monsters in the American Hockey league recording 19 points (2-17-19) and 34 penalty minutes. The 6-2, 190-pound Rochester, NY native was originally selected by Colorado in the 4th round, 110th overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
The second trade saw Edmonton acquire Colten Teubert, a first-round pick in the 2011 NHL Draft and a conditional pick in the 2012 NHL Draft, for Oilers forward Dustin Penner. Teubert, 21, was a 1st round choice, 13th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings. The 6-4, 200-pound rearguard has spent the season with the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL playing in 39 games collecting 10 points (2-8-10) and 57 penalty minutes.
"We're excited to have both of those players on our roster," said Barons general manager Bill Scott. "Montgomery is a player who stood out to us as a prospect when we saw him play for Lake Erie earlier in the season. He's responsible in his own end with some offensive upside. When the opportunity came up to acquire him, we took it."
"Teubert is a highly regarded defensive prospect with great size and mobility. As a captain of Canada's World Junior championship team in 2010 he has proven he can take on a leadership role at a young age. He has a bright future with the Oilers organization."
Both Montgomery and Teubert are expected in Oklahoma City for the Barons games this weekend against the Abbotsford Heat. Both games faceoff at 7:05 p.m. at the Cox Convention Center. Friday is Skateboard Deck Night. The first 2,000 fans through the doors will receive a Barons skateboard deck. The Abbotsford Heat are the AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames.
