
Anaheim Acquires Brian McGrattan and Sean Zimmerman from Boston

Syracuse, NY (February 28, 2011) - The Syracuse Crunch announced that the Anaheim Ducks have acquired right wing Brian McGrattan and defenseman Sean Zimmerman from Boston in exchange for center Stefan Chaput and right wing David Laliberte. Both McGrattan and Zimmerman have been assigned to the Crunch by the Ducks.
McGrattan, 29 (9/2/81), has appeared in 182 career NHL contests with Ottawa, Phoenix and Calgary, collecting 3-1114 points with 395 penalty minutes (PIM). He most recently played with the Flames in 2009-10, scoring 1-34 points in 34 contests with 86 PIM. A native of Hamilton, Ontario, McGrattan appeared in a career-high 60 contests in 2005-06 with Ottawa, scoring 2-35 points with 141 PIM.
The 6-4, 235-pound winger has appeared in 39 contests with the Providence Bruins (AHL) this season, scoring 4-15 points with 97 PIM. He led the AHL in PIM in 2004-05 with 551 when he collected 7-18 points in 71 contests with Binghamton. In 236 career AHL contests, McGrattan has earned 29-2352 points with 1,150 PIM. Selected by Los Angeles in the fourth round (104th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, McGrattan was signed as a free agent by Ottawa on June 2, 2002. He was acquired by Phoenix for a fifth-round selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft on June 25, 2008. McGrattan signed as a free agent with Calgary on July 11, 2009 and with Boston on Oct. 9, 2010.
Zimmerman, 23 (5/24/87), has appeared in 30 AHL contests this season with Rochester and Providence, collecting four assists (0-44) with 23 penalty minutes (PIM). A native of Denver, Colo., Zimmerman has appeared in 211 career AHL contests, scoring 4-1721 points with 211 PIM. He had a career year in 2009-10 when he appeared in 72 contests, notching 2-79 points with 105 PIM and a +13 rating with the San Antonio Rampage.
Selected by New Jersey in the sixth round (170th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Zimmerman appeared in four seasons with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League (WHL) from 2003-07, scoring 10-5969 points with 165 PIM in 270 games. The 6-3, 205-pound blueliner was also a member of Team USA's 2007 World Junior Championship squad, helping the club to a bronze medal. Acquired from Phoenix by New Jersey in exchange for Kevin Cornier on Sept. 12, 2008, Zimmerman was then traded to Vancouver with Phoenix's 2010 sixth-round draft pick on Mar. 3, 2010 in exchange for Mathieu Schneider. He began the 2010-11 season with the Florida Panthers organization after being acquired from Vancouver on Oct. 7 in exchange for Nathan Paetsch. On Dec. 9, he was acquired by Boston (with a conditional seventh-round draft pick) from Florida in exchange for Jeff LoVecchio and Jordan Knackstedt.
Laliberte, 24 (3/17/86), has appeared in 49 combined contests with the Crunch and Adirondack (AHL) this season, scoring 8-1018 points with 52 PIM. He was acquired by Anaheim with Patrick Maroon from Philadelphia in exchange for Danny Syvret and Rob Bordson on Nov. 21, 2010. In 212 career AHL contests, Laliberte has scored 57-64121 points with 511 PIM. A native of St. Liboire, Quebec, Laliberte was selected by the Flyers in the fourth round (124th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and has appeared in 11 NHL contests with Philadelphia, scoring 2-13 points.
Chaput, 22 (3/11/88), has played in 47 AHL games with the Crunch and Charlotte this season, recording 3-710 points with 15 PIM. Acquired by Anaheim with Matt Kennedy from Carolina in exchange for Ryan Carter on Nov. 23, 2010, Chaput has scored 17-4259 points in 138 career AHL contests. The Montreal, Quebec native was selected by Carolina in the fifth round (153rd overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
The Crunch head west to take on the Houston Aeros on Friday March 4 at 8:35 p.m. Syracuse returns home on Friday, March 11 to battle the Texas Stars at 7:30 p.m. at The Oncenter War Memorial Arena.
