Week Twenty One: Green Getting It Done
February 28, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Syracuse Crunch News Release
Crunch left wing Josh Green appeared in all four games for the Crunch last week and led the team in scoring with six points (2g, 4a). Green was named the game's first star with two points (1g, 1a) and scored in the fifth round of the shootout to propel Syracuse to its only win of the week, a 4-3 triumph over visiting Charlotte, on Tuesday, February 22. Green picked up an assist in a 7-4 loss to Binghamton Friday night, and was named the second star of the game after tallying another two helpers in a close 3-2 loss to Hamilton on Saturday.
The Camrose, Alberta native notched the Crunch's only goal on the power play in a 2-1 loss to Rochester on Sunday, extending his point streak to a personal season-high six games (3g, 6a). In 48 games for the Crunch this season, the 33-year old alternate captain ranks second on the club in scoring with 32 points (10g, 22a). The 14-year pro has appeared in 314 career AHL games since the 1997-98 season, recording 213 points (93g, 120a).
TRIO PROVIDING CONSISTENT OFFENSE: Rookies Nicolas Deschamps and Kyle Palmieri, along with third-year pro Patrick Maroon, have been extremely consistent lately when it comes to offense. Deschamps and Palmieri each recently had their respective point streaks snapped on Sunday in Rochester, but prior to that, Deschamps registered a point in six straight contests (3g, 5a) from February 16 - 26 and Palmieri had tallied a point in four straight (2g, 5a) from February 19 - 26. Maroon, on the other hand, extended his point streak to five games (3g, 3a) with an assist on Sunday at Rochester and now has points in six of his last seven games. In addition, Maroon ranks second on the Crunch in scoring with 32 points (18g, 14a) in 46 combined games with Syracuse and Adirondack this season.
UPCOMING GAMES:
HOUSTON AEROS (MINNESOTA WILD): The Crunch start a three-game Texas road trip with a Friday night match-up in Houston against the Aeros. The contest will wrap up the two-game season series and the Crunch will look to bounce back after dropping an overtime decision to Houston the first time these two clubs met back on January 26 at The Oncenter War Memorial Arena. For the Crunch, Kyle Palmieri registered two points (1g, 1a) and was named the game's second star, while Nate Guenin and Patrick Maroon notched the other two tallies for Syracuse. For Houston, Robbie Earl was named the game's first star after scoring twice, including the game-winner 1:43 into overtime on the power play.
SAN ANTONIO RAMPAGE (PHOENIX COYOTES): The Crunch continue their Texas swing with a Saturday night contest against the San Antonio Rampage, also wrapping up a two-game season series. The Crunch will look to avenge a 4-2 loss in the first game of the year between these two teams back on February 18. San Antonio's Brett MacLean stung the Crunch with a hat-trick, including the game-winner, while goaltender Matt Climie stopped 38 of 40 shots and picked up the win. Josh Green (1g, 1a) and Nicolas Deschanmps (0g, 2a) each tallied two points in the Crunch comeback attempt after falling behind 3-0, and Ray Emery took the loss in goal as he appeared in his first professional game in over a year after recovering from a career-threatening hip injury.
