San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose Earthquakes Homegrown defender Nick Lima has been called to the United States Men's National Team for the upcoming friendlies against Ecuador and Chile on March 21 and March 26, respectively. This is the third call-up for Lima following the 2018 and 2019 January Camps.
The U.S. MNT will travel to Orlando, Florida ahead of the match against Ecuador on March 21 at Orlando City Stadium, before heading to Houston to prepare for the match against Chile at BBVA Compass Stadium on March 26. Both matches will air on ESPN2 and Univision Networks at 5 p.m. PT on their respective dates.
Lima, 24, signed a Homegrown Player contract with the Earthquakes on Dec. 21, 2016. The Quakes' second-ever Homegrown Player, Lima started 20 games and tallied two goals and an assist during his rookie season in 2017, earning a spot as a finalist for the MLS Rookie of the Year award. He was rewarded with a call-up to the 2018 January Training Camp, his first at the youth or senior national team level. He was then named to the 2019 January Training Camp roster for friendlies against Panama and Costa Rica, where he was selected as Man of the Match in his national team debut.
The native of Castro Valley, Calif. has started both matches of the 2019 MLS regular season to date.
