Colorado Eagles News Release
Eagles Finish Series Sweep of Aces with 4-2 Win LOVELAND, Colo. -The Colorado Eagles (25-13-0-0) extended their winning streak to seven games with a 4-2 win over the Alaska Aces (15-17-2-1) in front of a full house Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center.
The Eagles found themselves on a power play 4:29 into the game when forward Kyle Kraemer roped a cross-ice pass to linemate Brock Nixon who beat Alaska netminder Aaron Crandall under the arm to give Colorado the early 1-0 lead.
Eagles goaltender Clarke Saunders made the initial save on a 5-on-3 power play, but couldn't regain control of the puck before Aces forward Brendan Connolly tapped home the game-tying goal, resulting in a 1-1 score, 5:10 into the second period.
Colorado forward Vitalijs Pavlovs dangled around Crandall scoring 5:07 into the final frame after receiving a needle-like thread from defenseman Brett Kulak to give Colorado a 2-1 edge. 3:14 later Eagles defenseman Collin Bowman beat Crandall on a shot from the left circle to extend the Eagles advantage to 3-1. With just under 10 minutes remaining, Alaska forward Justin Breton came streaking down the right wing, firing a shot which trickled past Saunders to bring the Aces within one, 3-2. To secure the victory, Colorado forward Nathan Moon stole the puck at center ice with 27 seconds remaining before finding the back of an empty net, giving the Eagles the final 4-2 victory.
Saunders had a solid outing, stopping 30 of 32 shots from Alaska to win a season-best seventh game in a row for the Eagles, their longest winning streak since the 2011-12 season.
