Evansville IceMen News Release

EVANSVILLE, Ind.- A sell-out crowd of 9,391 fans packed the Ford Center to watch the Evansville IceMen, presented by Coors Light, battle the Cincinnati Cyclones on Star Wars Night. After a back-and-forth struggle, the IceMen could not Force in a game-winning goal as Cincinnati snuck away with a 4-3 victory.

The IceMen (11-22-2-2) beat their season best attendance figure of 8,738 set on opening night. With 9,391 fans at the Ford Center, Evansville c ame 67 fans shy of the franchise's attendance record.

Cincinnati found the back of the net first. Steven Hodges picked up the puck in the high slot and slid it past Chris Driedger to put the Cyclones up 1-0.

Evansville answered as two returning players knotted the game up at one. After a Matt Lowry shot bounced off the boards behind the net, Patrick Kennedy dished a cross-crease feed to Mark Anthoine.

In his first game with the IceMen this season, Anthoine slammed the puck home to tie the game. Kennedy added his 11th assist of the season in his first game since Dec. 27.

The IceMen got their first power play of the contest in the second period and wasted no time making Cincinnati pay. Just 25 seconds into the man advantage Brandon Wong zipped a pass to Brandon Martell charging to the net. Sam Brittain stopped Martell's shot, but Colin Murray rocketed the rebound into the net to give the IceMen a 2-1 lead on his sixth goal with Evansville.

Cincinnati responded just over 90 seconds later. Geoff Irwin scored a four-on-four goal to tie the game at two entering the second intermission.

Midway through the third period, Cincinnati recaptured the lead. On a power play, Joe Basaraba added his fourth goal of the season to put the Cyclones back up 3-2.

Evansville retaliated when Lowry dropped the puck back to Martell at the blue line. The Ohio State alum fired a hard slapshot past Brittain to even the game up at three. Kale Kerbashian picked up his 18th assist of the season as did Lowry. Both players stand tied for the team lead in assists after they helped on Martell's fifth of the season.

With just over three minutes remaining, Cincinnati pocketed the eventual game winner. Basaraba sent a pass to the front of the net that Josh Shalla eventually knocked in to secure a 4-3 win for Cincinnati.

After a day off, the IceMen will host the Cyclones again on Monday Jan. 19. Evansville fans can get upper bowl tickets for just $5 with the Evansville Courier & Press Front Page Fan Ad. The Ford Center will treat fans to $1 soft drinks and $1 popcorns for this Martin Luther King Day game.
