Capitals Reassign Anderson to Tulsa

TULSA, OK - Brandon Anderson, a 22-year goaltender, was reassigned to the Tulsa Oilers on Saturday by the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League. Anderson will start in net tonight for the Oilers when they face off against the Orlando Solar Bears at 6:00 p.m. (CST). The Oilers have waived rookie goalie Kevin Murdock.

In September of 2010, Anderson signed a three-year, entry level contract with the Capitals and last week, the Langley, British Columbia native made his AHL debut with the Hershey Bears. Anderson made 30 saves on 31 shots to lift Hershey to a 3-1 victory over the Norfolk Admirals. Prior to his call up, Anderson appeared in seven games for the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL) where he posted a 1-4-2 record with a 2.65 goals against average.

"I want to thank Coach Ramsay and the Oilers' organization for showing interest in me and I'm really excited to be a part of this team," Anderson said. "I think I've arrived in a great situation where I can challenge myself and get the opportunity to showcase my ability. I'm looking forward to getting to know my teammates and helping this team win."

As a rookie with the Reading Royals (ECHL) in the 2012-13 season, Anderson, 6-foot-0, 187-pounds, played in 16 regular season contests and registered a 3.18 goals against average and an 8-6-1 record. Anderson returned to Reading for the 2013-14 campaign and enjoyed his most productive season as a professional. With a record of 25-10-1, Anderson finished second in the ECHL in wins, third in shutouts (5), and seventh in goals against average (2.35). He was honored as ECHL Goaltender of the Week once in January and again in March.

Prior to turning pro, Anderson played four seasons of junior hockey for the Lethbridge Hurricanes (WHL) and one season for the Brandon Wheat Kings (WHL). As a 19-year old, Anderson served as the Capitals' back-up goaltender during a 2011 preseason game against the Nashville Predators.

The Oilers conclude a their three-game Florida swing with their first ever match-up against the Orlando Solar Bears tonight at 6:00 p.m. (CST) at Amway Center. Tulsa is 3-1-1 on its current seven-game road trip and 1-1-0 so far in the Sunshine State.
