Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Allentown, Pennsylvania - Trailing by a run in the ninth inning, Dustin Peterson turned an impending loss into a sudden victory with a walk-off two-run homer, sending the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (61-52, 25-15) past the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (56-59, 24-17) by a final score of 4-3 on Wednesday night at Coca-Cola Park.
Both teams were quiet offensively until the middle innings. Jacksonville started the scoring in the fifth. Jacob Amaya singled with one away and then with two outs Jordan Groshans doubled him home.
In the bottom of the fifth the IronPigs answered. Simon Muzziotti homered for the second straight game, a two-run shot and sixth of the year, to put the IronPigs ahead 2-1.
A two-out Austin Allen RBI single tied the game in the sixth for the Jumbo Shrimp before they grabbed the lead in the eighth on a run-scoring wild pitch.
Kody Clemens singled to begin the ninth inning for the IronPigs, setting the stage for Peterson. The homer was his 14th of the season, giving the IronPigs the 4-3 win.
Yunior Marte (2-1) worked a scoreless ninth to get the win for the IronPigs. Marte walked two and struck out one.
Geoff Hartlieb (2-4) suffered the loss for the Jumbo Shrimp. Hartlieb went a third of an inning, allowing two runs on two hits.
The IronPigs and Jumbo Shrimp continue their series on Thursday, August 17 with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m.
