Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Buffalo, New York - In a thrilling 11-inning contest, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (72-60, 36-23) prevailed over the Buffalo Bisons (68-64, 34-23) by a final of 8-5 on Wednesday night at Sahlen Field.
The IronPigs found the scoreboard first as Matt Kroon doubled to open the third, moved to third on a groundout, and then scored on a Esteban Quiroz sacrifice fly.
Buffalo tied the game in the sixth as they loaded the bases to open the frame and a groundball double-play allowed a run to score, knotting the score.
In the seventh, Kroon smashed his second double of the day to drive in a run before scoring himself on a Darick Hall sacrifice fly to put the IronPigs ahead 3-1.
The Bisons grabbed a run back in the bottom of the seventh on a Damiano Palmegeani double that plated Nathan Lukes who had singled ahead of him.
Quiroz walked to open the eighth and Aramis Garcia then doubled him to third to set the stage for Jim Haley and Cal Stevenson who each produced sacrifice flies to tack on two more for the IronPigs. Stevenson's sacrifice fly was the fourth of the game for the IronPigs, setting a new franchise record.
Buffalo rallied back to tie the game in the last of the eighth. With two outs and the bases loaded, Lukes singled in a run before Palmegeani and Addison Barger each worked walks to force in two more runs, tying the game at 5-5.
The game stayed tied at 5-5 until the 11th. With two outs and the bases loaded, Dustin Peterson drilled a bases clearing double down the rightfield line, propelling the IronPigs ahead for good, 8-5.
Ben Bowden (6-2) worked both extra frames in scoreless fashion for the IronPigs, conceding only a walk while striking out two to lock down the win.
Rowan Wick (0-1) suffered the loss for the Bisons, allowing two runs (one earned) in 1.1 innings, walking one while striking out four.
The IronPigs and Bisons continue their series on Thursday, September 7, with first pitch slated for 6:05 p.m. at Sahlen Field.
